PRIVACY POLICY

This site is owned and operated by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI). Your privacy, both offline and online, is of the utmost importance to us. This privacy policy is in accordance with the current European data law, known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Information NTI Collects

NTI gathers two types of information about users: information that users provide through optional, voluntary submissions, such as subscriptions to our email newsletters or event RSVPs, and aggregated tracking information, such as number of page views on the website. The latter is gathered partially through the use of “cookies” (a text file in the browser of your computer). This cookie cannot read data off your hard drive and is used only to track traffic patterns.

Email Policy

NTI’s email messages are permissions-based. If you receive an email from us, you have either (a) shared your address for the purpose of receiving information or (b) you have registered for an event or otherwise have an existing relationship. Our emails may contain “web beacons” that allow us to determine the number of people who open our emails and who clicks on the links in each email. These only collected a limited amount of data, such as a cookie identifier, the time and date. You can disable web beacons by disabling HTML images or using a text-only email reader.

Each email we send contains an easy way for you to cease receiving email from us, via a “Manage Subscriptions” link at the bottom of our emails. Alternatively, you may also contact us at privacy@nti.org.

Third Party Services

In certain instances, we may contract with nonaffiliated companies to perform services for us. Where necessary, we will disclose information we have about you to these third parties. In all such cases, we provide the third party with only the information necessary to carry out its assigned responsibilities and only for that purpose. These entities may not use your data for other purposes.

Use of Data

NTI may use information about our visitors or donors to improve or personalize their experience of our websites or emails (e.g., provide a biosecurity invitation to those who have expressed interest in the topic). Additionally, we use tracking information to determine the usage of our digital content, what searches are popular, and how we may be able to improve our digital products.

We will release information about you if you direct us to do so, if we are compelled by law to do so, or in other legally limited circumstances.

Children

NTI will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without requesting parental consent.
